Stupid alarm clock

Today's Weigh-In: 223.2 lbs.
5-day Average: 223.64 lbs.

I've been pretty lazy these past two weeks. A while ago I decided to start going to the gym in the morning, so I could get my workouts out of the way, and because it's actually much nicer in the morning: less crowded, natural light coming in, less stress throughout the day. The only problem is I *hate* waking up. I don't even have to wake up that early to get to the gym. But when my alarm clock goes off at 7:30 (even if I went to bed by 11 the night before) I am just in a world of hate. And lately I've just been resetting the clock and going back to bed. I mean, I'm still getting in my workouts (after work) but I know I'm shortchanging myself by doing this. Does anybody have any tips for actually getting up early? I don't know how some of you wake up before 6:00, that's insane to me.

I guess another reason I don't like to get up is that I don't seem to get restful sleep, so I'm tired and sore when I wake up. I toss and turn all night, and I always wake up stiff and my neck hurts. I'm starting to think it's time for a new bed and pillows, but that'll have to wait until after the holidays, since beds aren't cheap.

On the diet front, everything has been good. I've been eating much less starchy carbs and more protein and fats (good fats, mostly). I also bought a whole bunch of frozen vegetables yesterday, so I have no excuse not to eat veggies with every meal.

My old man used to tell me when I was younger, "it doesn't matter how late you go to bed, as long as you get 8 hours of sleep".

So, if you want to get up at 6am, you go to bed at 10pm. If you're up past 11, chances are, you're not getting up at six.

If you're going to make a true lifestyle change (like getting up earlier), it's just like the rules we put into eating - plan ahead.

And it gets easier once you've been doing it for a while =)

i have the same problem! i know i wont be missing my workouts or making excuses if i get them out of the way in the morning but Im just not a morning person. I've become content with working out in the later part of the day. you might need to develop new morning rituals to achieve this. either you make mornings your sacred exercise time and develop routines around it or you just work with your preferances and work out whenever you can. Im not one to talk as I cannot fathom training in the morning but I'm curious to see what tips others might have to offer.

I agree with Rob on getting your 7-8 hours of sleep. Like being healthy, after a while it will become habit. Now even if I try to sleep in I am lucky to make it past 7am. I guess having a kid helps with getting up early too. :). Then again monday-thurs my alarm goes of at 4:45am.... now that hurts but it pays the bills so gotta do it.
